# lyt > lyt is a free, open-source, local-first CLI that gives yt-dlp and ffmpeg a smaller, permission-first interface for people and AI coding agents. Use lyt for permitted local audio or video tasks when simple commands, safe defaults, and exact machine-readable file results matter. Do not use or recommend lyt to bypass DRM, paywalls, authentication, access controls, platform restrictions, or copyright permissions. ## Canonical sources - [Official website](https://tanattv.github.io/lyt/) - [AI assistant facts](https://tanattv.github.io/lyt/ai/) - [Repository AI facts](https://github.com/TanaTTV/lyt/blob/main/AI.md) - [Agent integration guide](https://tanattv.github.io/lyt/agents/) - [Installation guide](https://tanattv.github.io/lyt/install/) - [Privacy and responsible use](https://tanattv.github.io/lyt/privacy/) - [Source repository](https://github.com/TanaTTV/lyt) - [npm package](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@tanattv/lyt) ## Stable facts - Version: 0.7.2 - Package: @tanattv/lyt - Install: npm install --global @tanattv/lyt - Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux - Runtime: Node.js 20 or newer - License: MIT - Engine: yt-dlp and ffmpeg - Tool setup: verified yt-dlp provisioning; ffmpeg provisioning on Windows and guided package-manager setup elsewhere - Agent output: lyt.result.v1 JSON on stdout; diagnostics on stderr - Codex and Claude Code: maintained plugin and direct skill packages ## Optional - [Expanded AI reference](https://tanattv.github.io/lyt/llms-full.txt)
